Excellent fluxing and oxide removal properties: Potassium hexafluoroaluminate effectively dissolves and removes oxide films from aluminum and aluminum alloy surfaces at brazing temperatures, significantly improving the wettability and spreadability of liquid brazing filler metal to the base material. High-quality brazed joints can be obtained with only a small amount added.
High thermal stability: Potassium hexafluoroaluminate has a high melting point of 1025°C and maintains structural stability in high-temperature processing and application environments, making it suitable for high-temperature melting, sintering, and brazing processes.
Moderate water solubility: Potassium hexafluoroaluminate is slightly soluble in water (1.42 g dissolves in 100 mL of water at 25°C), meeting the basic requirements for aqueous processing systems while possessing sufficient water resistance, maintaining stable performance in humid environments and aqueous systems.
Unique fluoroaluminate structure: Potassium hexafluoroaluminate possesses a [AlF₆]³⁻ octahedral coordination structure, which endows it with dual functions as a fluorine and aluminum source, exhibiting unique reactivity in catalytic systems and material synthesis.
Product Description
Potassium Hexafluoroaluminate Product Description CAS#13775-52-5
Potassium hexafluoroaluminate, also known as potassium fluoroaluminate, potassium cryolite, or potassium aluminum fluoride, has the chemical name (OC-6-11)-(3-)potassium hexafluoroaluminate, with the molecular formula K₃AlF₆ (also written as AlF₆K₃) and a molecular weight of 258.27. It is a white or light gray powder at room temperature. Its melting point is 1025°C, and its density is approximately 2.704 g/cm³ (20°C). Regarding solubility, potassium hexafluoroaluminate is slightly soluble in water; at 25°C, 1.42 g dissolves in 100 mL of water. Industrially, potassium hexafluoroaluminate is mainly prepared through synthesis: anhydrous hydrofluoric acid reacts with aluminum hydroxide to produce fluoroaluminic acid, which is then reacted with potassium hydroxide at high temperature. The mixture is then filtered, dried, melted, and crushed to obtain the final product. Alternatively, it can be synthesized by reacting aluminum fluoride, ammonium fluoride, and potassium chloride. Potassium hexafluoroaluminate possesses high thermal stability and a unique fluoroaluminate structure, making it valuable for applications in brazing, ceramics, glass, friction materials, and semiconductors.
Potassium Hexafluoroaluminate Product Applications CAS#13775-52-5
Potassium hexafluoroaluminate is an important inorganic fluoride salt and functional material, widely used in brazing, ceramics, glass, abrasives, pesticides, and semiconductors industries.
In brazing and metal processing, potassium hexafluoroaluminate is an important flux for brazing aluminum, aluminum alloys, and stainless steel, effectively removing metal surface oxides, improving wettability, and enhancing weld quality. It is also used as a degassing agent and flux in aluminum alloy manufacturing.
In the ceramics and glass industry, potassium hexafluoroaluminate is used as a flux and raw material in ceramic and glass manufacturing, for producing ceramic products such as tiles and bathtubs, as well as glass products such as windows and bottles.
In the abrasives and friction materials field, potassium hexafluoroaluminate can be used as an active filler in resin-bonded grinding wheels and coated abrasives, improving the efficiency, lifespan, and overall performance of grinding tools; it can also be used as an active filler in friction agents.
