Powerful Oxidant and Broad-Spectrum Bactericidal Properties:Sodium hypochlorite is a highly efficient and potent oxidant. Its aqueous solution hydrolyzes to produce hypochlorous acid, which in turn decomposes to generate nascent oxygen, resulting in extremely strong oxidizing power. It effectively kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, algae, and spores, making it one of the most widely used chlorine-based disinfectants.
Excellent Bleaching and Decolorizing Abilities:Sodium hypochlorite breaks the chemical bonds of chromophore molecules through redox reactions, causing color loss. In industries such as textiles, papermaking, and soap making, a small amount is sufficient to achieve highly effective bleaching and decolorizing.
Highly Efficient Water Treatment and Purification:Sodium hypochlorite possesses multiple functions in water supply and drainage engineering, including disinfection, bleaching, coagulation aid, inhibition of filamentous bacteria, and membrane washing. It is highly effective in drinking water disinfection, industrial circulating water treatment, and cyanide-containing wastewater treatment.
Good Water Solubility and Compatibility:Sodium hypochlorite is readily soluble in water and miscible with water in any proportion, facilitating the preparation of disinfectant and bleaching solutions of varying concentrations. It is suitable for various water-based systems and processing techniques.
Good Water Solubility and Compatibility:Sodium hypochlorite is readily soluble in water and miscible with water in any proportion, making it easy to prepare disinfectant and bleaching solutions of different concentrations. It is suitable for various water-based systems and processing techniques. Instability and Storage Requirements: Sodium hypochlorite decomposes easily under light, heat, or low pH conditions. Solutions with an alkalinity of 2%–3% can be stored for 10–15 days; solutions with lower alkalinity decompose more rapidly. Concentrated solutions have a shelf life of approximately 28–90 days. It should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse at a temperature not exceeding 30°C, away from light and heat sources.
Product Description
Sodium hypochlorite Product Description CAS#7681-52-9
Sodium hypochlorite, commonly known as bleach, antifomate, or sodium chlorate, has the chemical formula NaClO (or NaOCl) and a molecular weight of 74.44. At room temperature, it is a slightly yellow solution with a chlorine-like odor. Solid sodium hypochlorite is a greenish-yellow crystalline powder. Its melting point is -6°C for anhydrous sodium hypochlorite and 18°C for pentahydrate; its boiling point is 40°C (decomposes) or 101–102.2°C (decomposes); its relative density (water=1) is 1.10–1.25. Solubility is excellent in water, with a solubility of 29.3 g/100mL at 0°C. The aqueous solution is alkaline, with a pH of 9–10. Industrially, sodium hypochlorite is mainly produced through the liquid alkali chlorination process: liquid alkali is prepared into a sodium hydroxide solution of less than 30%, and chlorine gas is passed through it at a temperature below 35°C to carry out the reaction. The finished product is obtained when the sodium hypochlorite content in the reaction solution reaches a certain concentration. Alternatively, chlorine gas can be passed through a cold sodium hydroxide solution, and the reaction is carried out at low temperatures. Sodium hypochlorite is a strong oxidizing agent. Its aqueous solution hydrolyzes to produce hypochlorous acid, which then decomposes to generate nascent oxygen, thus achieving oxidation, bleaching, and disinfection functions. These unique chemical properties give it wide application value in many fields such as disinfection, bleaching, water treatment, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and textiles.
Sodium hypochlorite product applications CAS#7681-52-9
Sodium hypochlorite is an important strong oxidizing agent and multifunctional chemical, widely used in disinfection, bleaching, water treatment, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and textiles. Products are available in industrial, food, and pharmaceutical grades. Industrial-grade sodium hypochlorite typically has an effective chlorine content of 10%–15%; food-grade products are mainly used for disinfecting beverages, fruits, vegetables, and for sterilizing food manufacturing equipment and utensils.
In the field of disinfection, sodium hypochlorite is one of the most commonly used chlorine-containing disinfectants, widely used for drinking water disinfection, hospital and municipal wastewater treatment, swimming pool water circulation disinfection, and industrial circulating water treatment. Sodium hypochlorite effectively kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and algae, and is particularly effective against spores. In the food processing industry, food-grade sodium hypochlorite is used for environmental and general object surface disinfection, fruit and vegetable disinfection, disinfection of food processing equipment and containers, and cleaning and disinfection of CIP pipelines. In agriculture and animal husbandry, sodium hypochlorite is used as a disinfectant and deodorizer for vegetables, fruits, farms, and livestock sheds.
